Steps to Arabic (Pilot)
Introduction
Steps to Arabic is for students who have studied basic grammar but find Foundations to be beyond their level. This course will be an Access 3/Madinah Book 3 equivalent course. The expectation is that the student is familiar with concepts such as:
- analyzing jumlah ismiyyah and jumlah fi’liyyah
- madi, mudari, amr, nahi, masdar, ism faa’il and ism maf’ool of the 10 sarf families
At the end of the course, the students will have:
- read over 50 pages of Arabic text in class
- reviewed jumlah ismiyyah, jumlah fi’liyyah and the 10 sarf families
- performed i’rab of 1/4 juz
- mastered how to look up words in Arabic-English dictionaries
- acquired ~300 new Arabic vocabulary
Course Objectives
- Review: to review basic grammar and extend to advanced details
- Reading Comprehension: to develop reading comprehension skills by active listening and guided reading
- Vocabulary Acquisition: to acquire new Arabic vocabulary
- Arabic Medium: to get comfortable with Arabic terminologies progressively

Instructor
Ustadha Samiyah Parkar was the top graduate of her Arabic class (taught by Ustadh Aarij Anwer). She then furthered her Arabic studies at Qutoof and is currently enrolled in Advanced Islamic Studies.
She currently teaches Arabic grammar at AlHuda Institute in Mississauga, Canada. She’s also contributed to the translation of The Prophet’s Dua List.
