What’s Taught in Sarf?

المِيزَانُ الصَّرْفِي – the root letter foundation for all Sarf studies

المُجَرَّدُ وَالْمَزِيدُ فِيهِ – families I to X in detail, plus some other funky families

المُعْتَلُّ – weak letters

المُشْتَقَّاتُ – all types of Isms that are derived from root letters (e.g. Ism Mubalagah, the Ism of hyperbole الغَفَّار AlGhaffar v. الغَافِر AlGhafir)

Pre-requisites

Knowledge of basic Arabic grammar نحو, equivalent to the Foundations course.

The course is taught in a mixture of English and Arabic. Students with a good base in Arabic without the ability to speak will be able to succeed in this course, insha Allah.

Instructor

Sh Muhammad Helmi is a graduate of the University of Alexandria from the Faculty of Adab. He has taught students of all ages from all over the world for the last 15 years; 3 years at Qortoba Institute and 12 years privately. He is an expert in Arabic grammar, poetry and literature. Sh Muhammad teaches Foundations and Advanced Islamic Studies at Qutoof Academy. Born, raised and residing in Alexandria, Egypt, he enjoys reading in his spare time.
